The Johns Hopkins University School of Education invites applications for a promotion-track faculty position in the Early Childhood Education program beginning July 15, 2014. We seek applicants who have keen pedagogical insight and broad developmental knowledge about Early Childhood. In addition, the selected candidate should exhibit a high regard for scholarly productivity, rigorous research skills, and a strong passion about the importance of early childhood education.

As one of nine schools within one of the most highly regarded and well-funded research institutions in the country, the School of Education is poised to make investments in scholars and researchers capable of increasing the national profile of early childhood education for the 21st century.   The chosen candidate will be instrumental in helping to shape a robust program of studies and scholarship within the School of Education in collaboration with early learning policy makers, advocates, and stakeholder agencies.

The candidate will also be a key contributor to the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Early Childhood Center (ECC), a new 28,000 square foot early childhood center serving approximately 170 children opening in fall 2014. Our Early Childhood Center will employ a blended funding model in a year-round program designed to serve children from birth to five years from the private tuition market as well as families historically served through federally-subsidized Early Head Start and Head Start.

Key responsibilities include supervising graduate Early Childhood Education candidates; teaching professional core courses, including curriculum, early literacy and assessment; seeking externally funded research projects and grants; supervising graduate internships in schools and community organizations; curriculum & program development; and supervising masters projects, theses, and dissertations.

Job Requirements

Candidates should possess an earned doctorate in early childhood or related discipline. Strengths in curriculum knowledge and instructional best practices are also preferred. Preference will be given to those who demonstrate an interest in working with children from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.

Preferred Experience: Three years of experience advising masters degree candidates in early childhood education, child development, social services administration or related field; and prior program development, management, and evaluation experience in multiple early childhood settings preferred.
