Job Description: This is a full-time 12-month non-tenure-accruing time-limited faculty position in the University of Florida Water Institute. Duties to include: 1) Develop and test methods to generate random 2-D and 3-D conduit networks for incorporation into watershed scale flow and transport models 2) Develop and test coupled discrete-continuum flow and transport models for the Silver Springs basin in Florida; use these models in Monte Carlo and data assimilation algorithms to test hypotheses and gain insights into the behavior of the system; prepare project progress reports; prepare and submit articles for refereed journal publication 3) Assist in the mentoring of graduate students 4) Assist in the preparation of grant proposals Candidate will participate in weekly research meetings; will receive career counseling; training in preparation of grant proposals, publications and presentation; guidance on how to effectively collaborate with researchers from diverse backgrounds and disciplinary areas; and training in responsible professional practices. Candidate will be under the supervision of Dr. W. Graham, but expected to work independently on a day to day basis. Potential candidates should demonstrate: a strong quantitative understanding of flow and mass transport processes in surface and subsurface hydrologic systems; experience in modeling flow and mass transport behavior in subsurface and surface hydrologic systems; a strong proficiency in modeling analyses including large-scale parallel computing, scientific data visualization and analysis; experience with programming languages and scripting tools such as FORTRAN, C, C++, python and tcl/tk; experience in using hydrologic models to gain insights, answer hypotheses, and interpret observations and behavior in subsurface and surface hydrologic systems; demonstrated ability to publish research results in peer-reviewed literature.
Minimum Requirements: A Ph.D. in Agricultural, Civil or Environmental Engineering, hydrogeology or related field is required.
Preferred Qualifications Post-Doctoral experience is preferred.
