Job Description: This is a full-time, 10-month instructional position that reports to the K-12 Principal of P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School. The ideal candidate would have middle and/or high school mathematics teaching experience, training in special education or specific strategies for supporting students who struggle in mathematics, and experience using technology to support teaching and learning. P.K. Yonge teachers have been engaged in designing and testing a multi-tiered system of support for secondary students for six years. As a consequence of targeted small group and individual support for struggling math students, a higher percentage of students are taking and successfully completing rigorous high school math courses. As a faculty member of a developmental research school, PKY teachers partner with university researchers and PKY teaching colleagues to design and test innovations in response to contemporary educational challenges. As a teacher in a laboratory school, interested candidates should be comfortable with both scheduled and unscheduled observers and visitors. Candidates should also have an interest in teacher education. Specific responsibilities and expectations for a Middle/High School Math Support Instructor at P.K. Yonge are as follows: with secondary math faculty to provide direct support and intervention for struggling math learners Monitoring learning progress of assigned students and analyzing formative assessments to monitor student progress and plan instructional shifts to increase achievement and success for all assigned students and innovative uses of technology to support teaching, learning, and collaboration parent communication (electronically, face-to-face, and conferences) participation in teacher inquiry to support continuous program improvement to continuous professional learning and regular reflection on effectiveness of teaching practice and implemented curriculum for all students
Minimum Requirements: 1. a degree in math education (graduate degree preferred) 2. Florida Secondary Mathematics teaching certification 3. 3+ years of middle\/high school mathematics teaching experience (preferred) 4. excellent oral and written communication skills 5. demonstrated commitment to diversity and effective strategies for motivating and teaching students with differing abilities from a variety of backgrounds.
