The Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs seeks a founding director of its new LBJ Washington Center in the heart of Washington, DC. This new Center aims to educate and empower a new generation of leaders through an 18-month program in federal policy making, and to produce rigorous, policy-relevant research on the great challenges of our time. To that end, the School seeks a dynamic leader to spearhead operations in Washington, mobilize a network of potential employers and stakeholders, and solidify the LBJ School brand inside Washington.

Essential functions - Provide leadership, organization and administrative support for the creation, development, and success of this new LBJ Washington Center. Work closely with the Dean of the LBJ School, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and the Graduate Advisor to the Washington program, as well as a DC-based advisory committee, to support the administration of this new DC-based track of the LBJ School's Master of Public Affairs and Master of Global Policy Studies programs. Following an initial academic year at the home campus in Austin, Texas, the DC portion of this program will include six-month Monday-Thursday apprenticeships, with coursework on Fridays and Saturdays. Target enrollment is set at 20-25 for the first 2-3 years but is expected to grow thereafter. The director will lead the development of relationships with federal agencies, Congressional offices, non-profit organizations, LBJ School and University of Texas alumni, and other key constituencies; develop paid apprenticeships for students in the DC track and summer internships for Austin-based master's students; and assist with job placement for all LBJ School master's students aspiring to careers in DC. He or she will build the LBJ School brand in Washington through the development and execution of contemporary and forward-thinking marketing strategies, develop and deliver targeted and innovative recruitment and promotional initiatives, organize conferences and symposia, and represent the School at information sessions and other marketing events.

Master's degree in public policy/affairs or closely related field required.
