This position represents Northern Illinois University to prospective students and families in the south Cook county region of NIUs recruitment territory. To facilitate this recruitment, this regional admissions counselor is required to live in an area within or adjacent to the recruitment territory. While this individual will be required to report to NIUs DeKalb campus when needed, he or she will work primarily from a home-based office. This individual will provide admissions counseling and participates in on- and off-campus recruitment events. Responsible for undergraduate recruitment, travel in an assigned territory, and territory management to meet enrollment targets. Conducts information sessions, sharing details on the universitys academic programs and student life services. Responsible for secondary school, community college visitations and territorial management, including college day/night programs, college fairs, and individual school visits. Also collaborates with key community organizations with the purpose of publicizing NIU admissions. Extensive automobile travel and some overnight travel required. Some weekend assignments required. Large volumes of calls are made during the busiest times of the recruitment cycle. Also communicates with prospective students, families, and secondary school constituencies across campus, and assumes additional recruitment activities as assigned. Responsible for travel coordination. Responsible for assisting the director and associate director in the development, coordination, and evaluation of recruiting efforts. Other staff assignments as required (admission reports, special events, publications input, etc.). The position does not involve supervisory responsibilities. This is a full-time, twelve month position.
Baccalaureate degree. Experience in a college/university admissions office or related field. Residence in an area within or adjacent to NIUs south Cook County recruitment territory. Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to give presentations before large groups. Dedication and commitment to customer service. Ability to project a favorable image on behalf of the University. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail needed. Valid drivers license. Ability to do extensive automobile travel. Some overnight travel and weekend assignments.
