The University of Virginia invites nominations and applications for the Dean of the Darden Business School. The University of Virginia, founded in 1819, ranks as one of the top public universities in the nation and is a vigorous, modern institution, animated by the forward-looking spirit of its founder, Thomas Jefferson. The Darden School of Business is one of the world's leading business schools, offering three formats of its MBA degree program, as well as Ph.D. and Executive Education programs. Founded in 1955 and named for former University of Virginia President Colgate W. Darden, Jr., the Darden School has earned an exceptional reputation for developing future business leaders through its intensive and world-class educational experience.

Reporting to the Provost, the Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer of the business school, responsible for oversight and quality of all of the school's academic and research programs. The Dean has overall responsibility for many priorities, including defining the Darden School's strategic priorities that are developed in collaboration with faculty; maintaining a faculty of international excellence and educational programs of the highest quality; attracting excellent students; ensuring that Darden maintains robust revenue through programs, fundraising and executive education; facilitating links between theory, research and professional application; forging connections and opportunities with other schools within the University; and enhancing productive relationships with alumni, donors and local, national and international education, government and business communities.

The successful candidate will have the vision, talent and energy to build on Darden's legacy of excellence and to provide a collegial and inclusive environment for faculty, students, staff and alumni to continue to make a profound impact both within the School and more broadly in business and society. As a key member of the University's leadership, the Dean must have the ability to work across disciplinary and college boundaries and be a champion for increasing diversity amongst the student body, staff and faculty.
Candidates coming from academia will have an earned doctorate, a distinguished research and publication record, college teaching experience, and attainment of tenure as a full professor or its equivalent. Nonacademic candidates will demonstrate an appreciation for, and understanding of, academic scholarship and research, as well as proven senior executive officer experience in a complex organization.
