The College of Global Studies at Arcadia University invites applications and nominations for the position of Academic Dean.

With over 60 years experience The College of Global Studies at Arcadia University is known internationally for academically sound and experientially rich study abroad programs. The College offers a wide range of academic programs at Arcadia study centers as well as at top universities around the world. In addition to more than 140 study abroad programs in 16 countries, Arcadia offers semester, custom and short course programs, academic certificate programs, a co-curricular learning program and research, international internships, and service learning programs.


The College of Global Studies seeks a highly qualified and motivated academic administrator to be the Academic Dean.  In collaboration with the Vice President, the Academic Dean will provide leadership domestically and internationally, for the many academic programs of The College.  The position is responsible for developing and overseeing academic plans, policy, programs and procedures in The College of Global Studies and its centers around the world, ensuring that all academic programs and policies reflect the mission and values of The College and Arcadia University. 


In collaboration with a global team the Academic Dean works to ensure that The College offers high-quality, innovative, relevant and successful study abroad programs and curricula.  The Academic Dean oversees the process for the hiring and development of a global teaching faculty, monitors curricular and program quality, and develops policies that support and facilitate effective student learning outcomes.  The Academic Dean leads and mentors a team of Assistant Deans based in the U.S. who specialize in particular academic disciplines and pedagogical approaches, and liaises with all units within The College on academic matters.  The incumbent is expected to lead and contribute to the development of new programs, pedagogical models and destinations.    


As one of the schools and colleges of Arcadia University, the Academic Dean is expected to work collaboratively and successfully with the Provost, the academic deans and other university units in fulfilling the international and academic mission of the university.    


The Academic Dean will interact with faculty and international educators from institutions based both domestic and international in the development and promotion of The Colleges academic programs. The Academic Dean is expected to contribute meaningfully to the scholarship of international education through professional and academic presentations and publications. 


This senior-level post requires an experienced academic administrator with an advanced degree (Ph.D. or equivalent required), with significant experience in international higher education and education abroad, a strong understanding of the U.S. higher education landscape, strong skills in verbal and written communication, experience in management and mentorship, organization, developing and implementing goals, managing resources, strategic planning and interdisciplinary scholarly skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills. 


Experience leading an international organization, center or program is highly desirable.  The College of Global Studies also desires someone who is highly collaborative and able to work successfully across many different cultural contexts, is proficient in a foreign language, has experience teaching at the higher education level, as well as someone who can positively motivate and encourage a global team, demonstrates flexibility, good humor and practical approaches to complex problems. 


Significant domestic and international travel is required. 


The position reports to the Vice President of The College of Global Studies.
