The University of WisconsinMadison School of Nursing is one of the nations oldest and most respected schools of nursing. It was the academic home of Florence Blake, a pioneer in establishing the field of pediatric nursing as a specialty. The School of Nursing celebrates its 90th anniversary by announcing the opening of an endowed chair position, the Mary W. Gulbrandsen and Carl E. Gulbrandsen Chair in Pediatric Nursing.
The School of Nursing is seeking a senior nurse academician and scientist in the field of child and family nursing to be the inaugural chair holder. This is a full-time tenured faculty appointment. Duties for this prestigious faculty position include a full range of research, teaching, and service commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment at the University of WisconsinMadison. A significant program of externally funded, interdisciplinary research is required. Responsibilities include teaching in graduate and undergraduate nursing programs; attracting and helping to support graduate students; graduate student advising and research mentoring of PhD students; active collaboration with appropriate health care and policy organizations related to child health; and school, university, and professional service commensurate with appointment.
The Mary W. Gulbrandsen and Carl E. Gulbrandsen Chair will provide leadership within the School of Nursing and at the campus level to advance child and family research, education, and practice regionally, nationally, and internationally. State of the art research and teaching space will be available to the successful candidate, as the School of Nursing will open Signe Skott Cooper Hall, one of the most technologically-sophisticated research and teaching environments for nursing in the country, in August 2014.
- PhD in nursing or related field with specialization in child and family health (graduate degree in nursing)
- RN licensure in Wisconsin (required for teaching)
- Academic and professional credentials sufficient for appointment at the rank of professor with tenure national or international recognition as a leader in nursing of children and their families
- Excellence in teaching and mentoring and a vision for innovative undergraduate and graduate program development to prepare the next generation of nursing leaders in the field
- Established program of extramurally funded research that can significantly affect the health of children and families through practice improvement and policy change, in areas including but not limited to:
- development and testing of new models of family-centered, culturally-congruent care for children, including those with chronic health conditions and complex special health care needs
- biobehavioral, genetic, epigenetic, and/or genomic research approaches to understanding child health phenomena, including health-relevant interactions and behaviors, relationships of infants, children, and adolescents with parents, siblings, and peers, and prevention and treatment of mental health problems
- elimination of health disparities among under-resourced and economically disadvantaged families with children
- Distinguished record of scholarship with publications in influential journals and service to professional and scholarly organizations at the national level
