The Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina is seeking a visionary leader to serve as Chair of its Department of Exercise Science.  The Department offers academic programs at the doctoral (PhD and DPT), masters (MS and MPH), and undergraduate (BS) levels.  The Department is home to 28 faculty members whose research and outreach programs are funded by a broad range of federal agencies, private entities, and philanthropic organizations.  Several faculty members are nationally and internationally recognized for their research and professional activities. 

 

The University of South Carolina has been designated by the Carnegie Foundation as a very high research activity institution.  The Department of Exercise Science is a central contributor to the Arnold School of Public Healths research mission, and the School is a University leader in scholarship with over $25 million in annual research funding.  The Arnold School of Public Healths leadership is committed to providing the new Department Chair with the resources necessary to enhance the Departments research and academic activities. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a high level of scholarly achievement, an established record of research funding, teaching excellence, and professional leadership commensurate with a tenured academic appointment.  In addition, the individual will be an established academic leader who can facilitate faculty, staff, and student development and build collaborations with intramural and extramural partners.  Qualifications include an earned doctorate in exercise science or a related discipline.

 

The University of South Carolina is located in Columbia, the state capital and the center of a metropolitan statistical area that is home to over 700,000 residents.  Columbia is situated in the center of the state, approximately 100 miles from both the Atlantic coast and foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  The Columbia area offers a wide range of cultural and recreational resources including Lake Murray, Riverbanks Zoo, Congaree National Park, Koger Center for the Performing Arts, and EdVenture Childrens Museum.
