Position Responsibilities

Position Summary
The Director of Student Involvement is responsible for the administration, implementation, and promotion of student programs and student involvement opportunities for the organization including the Idaho Commons and Student Union, ASUI, ASUI Center for Volunteerism & Social Action, and Student Media; establish and administrate programs that meet the institution’s co-curricular student learning needs, collaborate with campus wide entities in the development of programs that meets the institution’s student development efforts, and that sustain the vibrancy of student life through student involvement; mentor/train and establish connections with students that facilitate extra-curricular programs and provide students learning opportunities and leadership skills.

Advise and oversee financial aspects of these departments in collaboration with the Assistant Vice Provost for Student Affairs and the Director of Admin & Fiscal Operations; supervise and guide the professional staff responsible for program implementation in the areas of responsibility; collaborate and create partnerships with off-campus entities to develop and organize community based program initiatives for students that enhance student involvement and learning; responsible for the creation and development of unit and department policies, budgets, strategic plans, and overall operating philosophies; serve as a member of leadership team for the Idaho Commons and Student Union; and student involvement committees as assigned.

Administrate campus student involvement and activities by:

Job Duties/Responsibilities
Directing the development of policies, programs and services to impact and enhance student life; supervising professional staff of the Student Involvement areas; oversee the establishment of consistent approaches to student development; direct the wide breadth of Student Involvement areas and Idaho Commons and Union educational programs and activities; collaborate with university administrative units to ensure safety and university protocols related to campus wide programs; administrate university policies and procedures related to student organizations; recommending action and resolutions for liability issues related to student organizations or activities; advise and oversee financial aspects for Student Involvement areas in collaboration with the Assistant Vice Provost for Student Affairs/and or the Director of Admin & Fiscal Operations.

Job Duty Function
Direct and provide leadership for civic engagement and involvement programs by:

Job Duties/Responsibilities
Supervising professional staff and student interns in the creation and implementation of policies and programs for student civic engagement, involvement and volunteer based learning programs; overseeing processes, policies, and procedures that build collaborations with community partners and participating agencies; maintaining relationships with external program supporters; developing student and community initiatives that promote civic engagement as campus wide co-curricular educational opportunities; staying informed of national trends and participating in professional organizations relevant to the civic engagement and national service movement; mentoring/advising students who are active leaders and participants in their personal and leadership development.

Administrate Student Volunteer Programs by:

Job Duties/Responsibilities
Supervising ASUI Center for Volunteerism & Social Action programs, Students in Service and other related programs; develop methods and strategies for sustaining student interest, involvement and participation in volunteerism; facilitate domestic and International Alternative Service Break opportunities for students.

Oversee Student Media Operations by:

Job Duties/Responsibilities
Supervising Student Media operations including the Argonaut newspaper, Blot Magazine, KUOI Radio Station and Argonaut Advertising; supervise Student Media Manager; provide professional guidance and advising on libel and privacy issues; ensure compliance with university policies and procedures; initiate capital replacement plans; evaluate needs for technology and related software and approve purchases; oversee development of Student Media annual operating budgets.

Job Duty Function
Support departments within the Idaho Commons and Student Union by:

Job Duties/Responsibilities
Assisting in the development of unit policies, procedures, budget needs, strategic and capital plans for the overall operation; creating opportunities for staff development and coordinating departmental projects and events that share synergies with student programming; delegated responsibility for department wide communication, personnel supervision, operational and other necessary direction when delegated by the Assistant Vice Provost of Student Affairs.

Job Duty Function
Contribute to team effort by:

Job Duties/Responsibilities
Serving on university level committees, regional and national professional organization boards as requested; collaborate with campus departments and programs; attend meetings and retreats; accomplish related tasks and other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Student Development, Student Affairs, Counseling or related field and 2+ years professional experience effectively interacting with students, faculty, and administrators in a college or university setting. Experience identifying, assessing, developing and presenting leadership programs and training activities; interpreting and applying rules, laws and regulations; developing, coordinating and promoting programs.
Good knowledge of educational and learning processes; group dynamics; conflict management; supervisory practices; student development theory; computer software including layout (publishing, graphic, web page creation, data base, power point) and financial programs.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in higher education advising,
5+ years of professional experience effectively interacting with students, faculty, and administrators in a college or university setting.
