Assistant Teaching Professor Position in Counseling Psychology


As part of our recently developed Strategic Plan and our commitment to high-quality graduate education, the University of Missouri (MU) College of Education is committed to strengthening its focus on Counseling Psychology. We are searching for an individual to fill a non-tenure track, nine month, faculty position who shares the College’s commitment to excellent teaching, exceptional service to students and the profession, and to continuous quality improvement in an environment of civility and respect. We are pursuing concurrent additional faculty hires in Counseling Psychology consistent with our strategic priorities to increase research and educational capacity within the program.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Doctorate in Counseling Psychology or a related field by the time of appointment (anticipated September 1, 2015).
  • Experience teaching graduate courses in Counseling Psychology or related fields
  • Licensed or license-eligible (pending state-specific requirements) as a psychologist in the State of Missouri


Candidates will be evaluated on the following factors:


  • Ability to teach graduate courses in counseling psychology, consistent with program and departmental instructional needs
  • Ability to advise and provide clinical supervision to graduate students in the counseling psychology program
  • Ability to provide service to the program, department, college, and the profession


This position will be housed in the Department of Educational, School, and Counseling Psychology (ESCP).

The APA-accredited Counseling Psychology training program emphasizes a scientist – practitioner model of training. With 60 +years of continuous APA accreditation and being consistently ranked as one of the top Counseling Psychology programs in the country, we offer the M.Ed. (in school counseling, career counseling, sport psychology, and a dual degree Master’s program with NTNU in Taiwan) as well as the Ph.D. degree. We also have successful online programs including the Masters and Educational Specialist in Mental Health Practices in the Schools, a M.Ed. in Positive Coaching, and certificates in positive psychology and multicultural education. The successful candidate will join a vibrant team of 8 core faculty and 4 non-tenure-track faculty. Our doctoral students are highly diverse with over 60% being racial ethnic minority, international, or LGBT individuals. The program is affiliated with the Missouri Prevention Center, the Assessment and Consultation Clinic, the Coalition for Cultural Competency as well as the MU Career Center and Counseling Center and has an award-winning national and international reputation in multicultural and cross-cultural work.

About the College: The College of Education (COE) is ranked among the top doctoral granting colleges of education in the country. Today, the College of Education has a student population of approximately 1,300 undergraduates and 1,000 graduate students with 87 tenured/tenure-track and 25 full-time non-tenure track faculty members. The COE recently completed a new strategic plan and is financially well positioned to invest in opportunities for innovative ideas in support of the plan. Annual expenditures for externally funded projects are approximately $12 million with funded projects in research, instruction and public service. Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
