The Division of Diversity and Community Engagement at The University of Texas at Austin invites applicants for the position of Director of the Multicultural Engagement Center (MEC). The Multicultural Engagement Center is housed within the Student Diversity Initiatives (SDI) portfolio, which includes the Gender and Sexuality Center: Serving Women and Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Transgender, Queer and Ally Communities. Student Diversity Initiatives works with students to create safe spaces where they can pursue academic interests, develop leadership skills, and advocate for communities. Through social justice education and community building, SDI empowers students to challenge inequity, marginalization, and injustice.
The core purpose of the MEC is to transform the lives of students by providing leadership development, educational opportunities, and culturally relevant and social justice focused support services. Home to six student agencies including Afrikan American Affairs, Asian Desi Pacific Islander American Collective, Latino/a Leadership Council, Native American and Indigenous Collective, Queer People of Color and Allies, and Students for Equity and Diversity, the MEC serves as a cultural and educational resource center for all UT Austin students. The Director of Multicultural Engagement Center will report to the Executive Director for Student Diversity Initiatives and be responsible for providing program, personnel, and budgetary leadership and oversight for the MEC. Prospective candidates should possess competencies in social justice education and facilitation, student affairs theory and practice, student identity development, multicultural program development, implementation, management and evaluation. Successful candidates will have a minimum of a masters degree, approximately 5-7 years of professional experience working with multicultural and diverse student populations, and be actively involved in professional development about multicultural and diverse student populations.
