Reporting to the Managing Director, this position administers and executes a portfolio of innovation projects undertaken by the Innovation Group of the Wharton Deans Office.  The Innovation group is charged with pursuing medium and long-term opportunities to improve the performance of the Wharton School with respect to its educational, scholarly and social objectives.  Specifically, this position is responsible for directing the creation, development, promotion and operations of Wharton Online, a set of initiatives which includes Whartons courses offered through Penn Open Learning as well as related online learning programs offered for fee. In that role, the Project Director will oversee the production and marketing of new online programming, supervising the work of both university internal and external vendors. The Project Director will assume the leadership of a cross division project taskforce charged with overseeing and implementing the Schools online learning strategy, insuring coordination across the divisions and centers of the School.  The Project Director will also act as the School liaison with the Penn Open Learning Initiative and online projects at other Schools within the University. 

 In addition, the position provides direction for the development and implementation of new online programs associated with Whartons Lifelong Learning initiative as well as educational experiments in the graduate and undergraduate programs.   The Project Director develops communications and outreach programs and events for soliciting and engaging the interests of key stakeholders and others with the potential to contribute to the implementation of projects undertaken by the Innovation Group. In coordination with the Schools business development offices, the director will identify potential sponsors and business partners, translating new educational initiatives and other institutional innovations into persuasive proposals and compelling sponsorship opportunities.



Bachelors Degree; and 7 years to 10 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required; Masters degree strongly preferred. Excellent communication skills in both speaking and writing are required.  Evidence of strong negotiation skills is required.   A background in higher education administration is preferred.  Evidence of the ability to deliver results given tight deadlines and constrained budgets is preferred. 
Must be a team builder who takes a non-hierarchical approach to organization and who is willing to empower subordinates to get the job done while providing the support and advocacy they need. Ability to function independently yet relate comfortably to a multifaceted environment, participating in and contributing to a total team effort. Appreciation for the mission and identity of the University of Pennsylvania. Travel, including international travel, evening/weekend work and valid drivers license required.
