Two Year Fix Term

Reporting to the Sr. Associate Dean for the Humanities and Arts, with a dotted line report to the Associate Dean for Graduate and Undergraduate Studies, this position is tasked with implementing initiatives associated with the humanities (including the arts). Initiatives include but are not limited to development of career opportunities for humanities PhDs, summer programming, assisting with efforts to raise the visibility of the humanities, and expansion of curricular offerings for undergraduate students.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Execute School of Humanities and Sciences initiatives in the areas of humanities and arts

• Coordinate implementation across academic units and schools at Stanford and with other partner institutions

• Build support for initiatives through effective engagement with faculty, staff and students

• Liaise with relevant offices, including the Vice Provost for Graduate Education, Center for Teaching and Learning, and the Career Development Center

• Design assessment metrics; assess, analyze, and report on outcomes of each initiative

• Coordinate events such as workshop series

• Survey and report on initiatives and programs at other institutions

• Administrative duties, including establishing communication plan (e.g.. targeted email distribution lists), tracking expenditures, etc.


• PhD in humanities related field highly desired; terminal graduate degree required

• Substantive interest in, and knowledge of, the issues facing the humanities in higher education

• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including tact and discretion when handling sensitive matters

• Ability to work independently and to demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, and flexibility

• Ability to manage multifaceted processes, and to identify and construct solutions

• Assessment, data analysis, and reporting skills
