Job Overview: The Department of Biology, Drexel University in Philadelphia, is seeking to hire a full-time Assistant Director of Teaching Laboratories. Individuals will assist in the managing of a large laboratory teaching program. Successful applicants will teach and oversee Freshman Honors Biology lab and recitation sections for 3 of the 4 academic quarters, with summer quarter assignment to upper level Biology labs. The position will be responsible for direct supervision and evaluation of students in the laboratory and recitations and will work with faculty to plan and implement teaching labs and assist in educational assessment. This position will work closely with the Director and other Assistant Directors of Teaching Laboratory Services and will report to the Assistant Department Head.



The successful candidate must have a Master's degree in Biological Science (or related field), or its equivalent.   Teaching experience preferred. Laboratory experience in a research, clinical or educational lab environment required. Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills required.


Essential Functions:

Successful candidate will be part of a multi-person team involved in the development and delivery of undergraduate teaching laboratories. The position will have direct contact with students in Freshman Honors labs and recitations, as well as other upper level Biology labs.   

The successful candidate will work closely with the course instructor to develop and deliver the laboratory content as well as oversee training and supervision of graduate teaching assistants associated with the course.


The position will assist faculty & prep staff in the planning and preparation of undergraduate Honors General Biology labs, including screening of the lab materials and protocols. The position will also be involved in academic functions such as developing pre-labs, grading and tutoring students.
