Patient-centered primary care (formerly patient-centered medical care) curriculum development is part of the Ohio Heritage Foundations Vision 2020 initiative, and is aligned with the Heritage Colleges vision for producing physicians who practice primary care or, if they do specialize, understand and respect primary care in their work. Neither primary nor specialty care is complete without the other. And contrary to the dominant ethic in American medicine today, primary care should lead and provide the context for the appropriate use of specialty services.
The Office of Rural and Underserved Programs and the Department of Family Medicine are seeking a board certified D.O. or M.D. with patient-centered, continuing, comprehensive, and coordinated care experience and expertise in the Patient-Centered Medical Home to be the leader in transforming primary care medical education at the Heritage college through the design, coordination, and implementation of a patient-centered primary care curriculum (PCPC) across all three campuses that will attract students to primary care and build core PCMH competencies among preclinical students, residents and clinical faculty, including (1) inter-professional care; (2) evidenced-based, outcomes-focused medical practice; (3) patient and community engagement and empowerment; (4) clinical informatics; (5) safety and quality; and (6) performance improvement.
The Director for Primary Care Education will be assisted in his/her work by the staff in the Office of Rural and Underserved Programs and will align his/her efforts with those of Heritage college faculty and preceptors. Two restructuring task forces—one focused on Biomedical Sciences and the other on Primary Carehave been appointed by the Dean and will be producing a report by June 2013. In addition current plans call for curriculum revision by 2017, and the Director for Primary Care Education will be a key contributor to this effort.
Curriculum design, course development, case writing, didactics and group facilitation
Faculty development, practice facilitation and preceptor recruitment
Research related to curriculum implementation and refinement
Service on committees, task forces, and other departmental responsibilities
Administrative coordination with the campuses in Athens, Dublin and Cleveland, with the Rural and Urban Scholars Pathways program and with the Rural GME Consortium
MINIMUM: Current medical license; Board Certification in Family Medicine, Pediatrics, General Internal Medicine, or Geriatrics.
MINIMUM: 8 or more years of experience that supports deep knowledge and expertise in the area of primary care medical education and implementation of the patient-centered medical home.
MINIMUM: 8 or more years of experience with supervisory or managerial responsibilities.
