The Executive Director will report to the Sr. Associate Vice President for Development and work in conjunction with the Vice President of Development and Alumni Affairs and act as an integral member of the senior leadership team, providing vision, leadership and strategic direction to the Universitys campaign planning efforts and fundraising program. He or she will serve as a strategic partner of the Office of Advancements divisions, cultivating a spirit of urgency, ownership, creativity and effectiveness to ensure future campaign success. Most importantly, the Executive Director will serve as a senior strategist, architect and executor of initial campaign plans, setting campaign priorities, driving transformational initiatives, and helping all members of the Advancement team function at their highest potential.
Essential functions are:
Leadership Council and Strategic Workgroups Oversight, Strategy and Execution
Direct, manage and support the Leadership Council and other strategic campaign workgroups, serving as the main point of contact between the VP of Development and Alumni Affairs and the Council/ Workgroups in all matters related to the development, tracking and execution of strategies to ensure campaign readiness and success.
Conceptualize and implement priority campaign initiatives discussed by the Council/ Workgroups; establishing, in collaboration with Communications, Alumni Relations, Development, Advancement Services and Talent Management, actionable plans, systems, processes, and strategic performance metrics consistent with advancing campaign priorities and ensuring an integrated, coordinated, thorough and effective approach to campaign planning.
Lead and facilitate monthly Leadership Council Meetings, Workgroup meetings, briefings and debriefings.
Oversee and prepare all Leadership Council/ Campaign Workgroup presentations, progress reports, action memos, collateral and follow-up, ensuring the timely approval and dissemination of all support documents.
Maintain thorough working knowledge of best practices and trends in advancement, campaign planning and philanthropy, disseminating the most useful tools and ideas to the rest of the organization.
Regularly communicate progress on campaign plans to the VP, University leadership, Board and others as appropriate.
Build strong, trusting relationships with unit-based staff, deans and faculty to enhance the development and communication of campaign plans.
Capacity-Building and Special Projects
Build out important infrastructure for future growth and develop a campus-wide structure for advancement activities, strengthening strategic partnerships in support of campaign planning.
Provide ongoing coaching, strategic advice and counsel and tactical guidance to university and advancement leadership to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the organization.
Partner with the AVP of Principal Gifts to develop and execute individual donor strategies and assist with the development and management of projects.
Help represent the universitys campaign planning and special projects efforts on the national stage at local and regional conferences and events.
Major Gifts Fundraising
Actively manage a portfolio of major and leadership gifts prospects, personally participating in their identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
Develop and present major gifts proposals focusing on individual prospects and on leadership and corporate foundations prospects (potentially based in an out-of-state region).
Serve as a lead writer and copy editor for Development overseeing strategic writing for Development and Principal Gifts.
With limited guidance from the VP and other senior leaders, draft inspirational, compelling donor-facing documents, including concept papers, presentations, proposals, and correspondence under tight deadlines.
Explains complex issues in an interesting and concise manner for internal and external target audiences. Captures the essence of a message and writes compelling pieces.
Assists in writing talking points, speeches, press quotes, blogs, and correspondences for the Vice President and Sr. AVP Development.
In consultation with the AVP, Strategic Communications and Marketing provides communications counsel on strategies, messaging and issues management to senior management colleagues, displaying business acumen and understanding of the most critical university drivers.
Masters degree in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience; or a bachelors degree in an appropriate area of specialization and eight years of appropriate experience.
A valid drivers license is required.
The ideal candidate will have:
A masters degree in Strategy, Business Administration, Non-Profit Management or other appropriate area of specialization.
Five to ten years experience providing leadership and oversight in campaign and development strategic planning.
A thorough working knowledge of best practices and trends in advancement and campaign management, particularly among the universitys peer institutions and a nuanced understanding of the state of philanthropy
Proven success in a complex organization is required, prior experience in higher education is strongly preferred; experience at the University of Florida preferred.
Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, design and implement campaign initiatives and programming
Proven success record in building productive, long-term relationships with university faculty, staff and volunteers and planning and manages complex projects and work streams.
Outstanding written and oral communications skills and the ability to draft inspirational donor-facing documents under tight deadlines and with limited direction.

The incumbent should be computer proficient in these areas: Windows, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint/Prezi, Internet Explorer, Email. Working knowledge of a donor database, contact management and tracking system.
The ability and willingness to travel. A valid driver license and good driving record are essential.
