ASSISTANT PROFESSOR- INTERACTIVE/GRAPHIC DESIGN- The Department of Art in the School of Fine Arts at Missouri Western State University welcomes applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in Art to begin August, 2014. The ideal candidate should possess a thorough knowledge of web design, user-interface design, usability, and mobile application design. We are looking for an effective communicator dedicated to being part of a thriving learning community. Teaching assignments may include Interactive Design, Website and Mobile Design, Graphic Design, and Animation courses with industry-standard equipment and workflow. The successful candidate will teach foundation studio courses and graduate courses as required; participate actively on program and university wide committees and projects; advise students; among other activities.
REQUIRED: MFA in graphic design, interactive media, visual communication design or a closely related field and be strongly committed to teaching and working as a collegial team member. Candidate must have a solid background in web and visual communication design with experience in HTML/HTML5, CSS3, WordPress and Adobe Creative Suite. An excellent working knowledge of Mac computers, Epson printers, and other appropriate software is required. The ability to encourage critical thinking and problem solving is essential. PREFERRED: Industry experience and a record of effective teaching in higher education. Additional experience in other media and concentration area that may include illustration, drawing, 2D design, animation or game design is welcomed. The portfolio that should reflect the requirements and preferences of the position description as posted and consist of 20 images (PDFs, website address) of the applicants portfolio plus a minimum of 10 images of student work, if available.
