DIRECTOR OF GOVERNMENT RELATIONS
WESTERN WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY
Serves as the liaison between the University and the Legislative and Executive branches of Washington State Government, the Washington Student Achievement Council, and other state government agencies. The director maintains relations with legislators, testifies before legislative committees and maintains information flow between campus and state legislators, legislative and executive staff. The director monitors all legislation that may have impact on the university.
The director reports to the Vice President for University Relations and Community Development and leads University lobbying in Olympia during legislative sessions. The director advises the University president and administrators regarding issues associated with the legislative and executive branches of government, coordinates activities which offer the opportunity for the University to interact with members of state government and the citizens of Washington; coordinates University presentations and testimony for legislative committees; coordinates and/or drafts legislation important to the University and/or for four year public higher education across the state; prepares, tracks and/or coordinates University submissions and responses to policy and operating and capital budget related reports generated during and out of session for executive, legislative and agency leaders and/or staff; works with University staff to ensure that the university community and other stakeholders are informed about legislative matters of importance; and supervises the staffs government relations specialist. The director may have other duties as assigned by the Vice President for University Relations and Community Development.
This is a full-time, 12 month administrative exempt position including a full benefits package. The position is available beginning September 15, 2014. Salary Range: $90,000 - $110,000.
