Job Description: The Veterinary Technician position in UFSmall Animal Oncology department provides support and assistance to the medical, surgical, and radiation oncology programs. This position offers opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the Oncology Service. Thus, we are seeking an individual who is interested in providing exemplary patient care, teaching veterinary students and maintaining outstanding communication with both clients and referring veterinarians. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, has strong interpersonal skills, and has the desire to learn and develop their skills and capabilities. The incumbent must be knowledgeable and skillful in the nursing care of animal patients. This position requires a post-offer health assessment.
Minimum Requirements: Graduation from an accredited American Veterinary Medical Association program for veterinary technology and\/or met requirements for certification in the state of Florida; or a high school diploma and four years of veterinary work experience. Minimum of two years of practical experience in an academic hospital environment or equivalent education and practical experience in private practice. Documented completion of 20 hours continuing education within the last two years. Cross training may substitute for continuing education. Successful completion of the basic skills mastery list.
Preferred Qualifications Graduation from an accredited veterinary technology program and\\:or certified veterinary technician Knowledge of animal care and nursing Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and terminology Knowledge of principles of safe veterinary anesthesia in patients with a variety of systemic diseases Knowledge of the equipment and materials used and their availability and applications Ability to effectively maintain a working environment while in stressful situations Ability to communicate effectively with employees of various levels and responsibilities Ability to maintain effective working relationships with clinicians, coworkers, students, and clients Ability to maintain a positive attitude at work Ability to accept constructive criticism from senior staff and clinicians willingly Ability to lift a minimum of fifty pounds Ability to bend, kneel, pull, push, twist, and stand for extended periods
