Human Resources Generalists


The University of Virginia’s School of Medicine (SOM) is searching for knowledgeable and proactive Human Resources Generalists to join a team of HR professionals. The School of Medicine is decentralized for human resources functions and these positions are housed in the Dean's office serving in a review and oversight capacity for school-wide actions, initiatives and projects. We are recruiting for two positions.


The first position that is available is a Staff Human Resources Generalist. This position provides support for the performance management cycle, position classification and compensation activities throughout the School. The incumbent reviews and approves actions to ensure equity across the School and collaborates and partners with SOM departments, SOM HR team members, and central University organizations. The incumbent also leads, staffs, or serves on special projects with School-wide impact. The daily duties of this position are a mixture of transaction processing using critical thinking and human resources best practices while at the same time consulting multiple customers in our field departments. You will be advising other HR professionals most of the time rather than being the first point of contact to employees and managers.


The second position that is available is the Dean's Office Human Resources Generalist. This position is responsible for the day-to-day management of all School of Medicine Dean's Office human resources operations including recruitment, classification, compensation, employee relations, performance management and training. The incumbent staffs SOM department administrator, chair, and other searches and provides reporting and analysis support. The incumbent serves as an HR consultant to Dean's office managers and staff and provides advice and guidance on all human resources matters. The Human Resources Generalist also provides special project support for departmental, School and University initiatives. This position may be filled at the Human Resources Generalist level or the Senior Human Resources Generalist level.


Qualified candidates must have a bachelor's degree with at least two years of progressively responsible experience as an HR generalist or experience in the areas of recruitment, compensation, and/or position classification. A master's degree may substitute for required experience.
