The College of New Jersey seeks a Director of Strategic Communications and Publications, who will function as the Colleges editor-in-chief, overseeing all institutional storytelling. With a thorough understanding of the Colleges brand messaging strategy, s/he will play an instrumental role in building the brand and supporting other institutional goals through creative and engaging story-based content across all of TCNJs official communications channels—print and digital.
The Director will be expected to shape a dynamic and consistent voice for the College; network with administrators, faculty, students, alumni, and staff to identify the elements of a compelling narrative for TCNJ; and target methods and channels for the transmission of information based on an understanding of the nature of communication and the Colleges audiences.
With a background in the production of high-quality publications and knowledge of both design and editorial best practices, s/he will work with staff across the division to bring new life and ideas to the Colleges alumni magazine, online news channel, e-newsletters, social media and other forms of communication. S/he is capable of being a team player willing to write and edit, and work with his or her creative services staff to concept illustration, photography, and design ideas.
This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Communications, Marketing and Brand Management and oversees the editorial and creative services staffs. Editorial includes the editor of TCNJ magazine, as well as a team of freelance and student writers. Creative services include a newly created associate director position, a design specialist and a team of student designers.
A BA in journalism or related field and a minimum 7-10 years experience writing, editing and producing high quality publications is required. Candidates should submit a portfolio containing samples of their work as part of the selection process. Preferred qualifications include a Masters degree in Journalism or New Media and experience in Higher Education.
