JOB DUTIES: Primary responsibilities include teaching all aspects of pre-, intra-, and post-operative duties in the care of the perioperative patient; plus the planning and supervision of all lab and clinical instruction in surgical skills of the entry level surgical technologist. Other responsibilities include the selection of clients for student clinical experiences; participation in the student clinical evaluation process; and review of the curriculum and specific course content. Additional duties include: maintain working relationships with all clinical entities; arrange schedules; maintain student records; student advisement, recruitment, and retention activities; professional development; scholarly activity; participation in program, college, and university committees and activities that benefit the College of Health Sciences and the University. Other related duties as required and/or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum requirements include a bachelors degree in a related field (with an associate degree in surgical technology or nursing preferred); plus two years of recent experience in the operating room and/or teaching surgical technology; and be a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST). Desired qualifications include a masters degree or, if applicable, a willingness to obtain; experience teaching surgical technology in a higher education setting; demonstrated experience and leadership skills in the development of instructional materials; ability to use technology as a teaching and learning tool; collaborative active learning; excellent interpersonal, organization, and communication skills; and a commitment to high professional standards. Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for part of these requirements.
