Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Professor of TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages).
College Information: The College of Education can be considered the cornerstone college of Florida A&M University, a thriving historically black university located in Florida’s capital city, Tallahassee. The College of Education was the first and only college within the university at its inception in 1887. The primary mission of the college is to prepare teacher and leadership candidates to become transformative school leaders. The College of Education administers the pre- and in-service professional education and graduate programs encompassed within four departments: Elementary Education; Secondary Education, Technology Education, and Foundations; Health, Physical Education, and Recreation; and Educational Leadership and Human Services.
Position Responsibilities: Responsibilities include: teaching undergraduate courses for teacher endorsement in ESOL for Elementary Education, English Education and Pre-K Primary Education majors; teaching one secondary education content course; teaching one graduate course for School Administrators and other administrative personnel (Counselor Educators and school Psychologists); providing professional development and updates for ESOL-infused faculty responsible for other courses in the Teacher Education core and supervising students participating in school-based field experiences; maintaining program accreditation for ESOL following guidelines provided by Florida Department of Education; advising undergraduate and graduate students; engaging in active service to the department and University responsibilities; maintaining an active agenda of scholarly activities that include theoretical and/or applied research, and assisting in securing external funding.
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates should have an earned doctorate degree in ESOL or related field such as (Applied Linguistics, TESOL or Bilingual Education or a closely related degree); knowledge of current state initiatives, and the Common Core initiative; possess a willingness to participate in collaborative partnerships with school districts and other professionals on the state university system; and the ability to integrate technology into instruction and participate in distance learning and web-based instruction.
Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with at least 3 years teaching experience within the elementary school setting that demonstrates an understanding of the teaching/learning process and collaboration in the US
Salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
