Serials/Electronic Resources Librarian
Provides leadership for the Periodicals Department including training; formulating, implementing, and reviewing policies and procedures; provides oversight for the department's workflow and processes, sets and fulfills departmental goals; supervises and evaluates the work of periodicals staff and reports the department's activities, includes providing monthly, annual, and ad hoc reports related to usage statistics, service/resource provision, vendor evaluation and other related assessment activities.
Provides leadership in developing and delivering the library's e-resource and print/microform serials collections, including working with other library staff to identify, evaluates and selects electronic resources in support of the university's mission. Manages the library's electronic resources lifecycle. Maintains open communication with library vendors, publishers and consortia, and with library information technology staff and university contracts and purchasing personnel to ensure the timely acquisition and processing of serials and electronic resources, includes review of product information, pricing, and contract/licensing information and technical review of proposed electronic products.
Participates in professional and scholarly activity, also serves on library and university committees.
Provides outreach for electronic resources, including the development of training materials, provision of training sessions and working with faculty and librarians to identify electronic content relevant to specific teaching/learning activities and for inclusion in discipline specific library resource guides.
Works up to 4 hours weekly at the reference desk.
Responsible for collection development and library instruction in subject liaison area(s).
Provides customer service to patrons of the department.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Masters of Library Science or equivalent from an ALA accredited program. Two (2) years of experience with serials and electronic resources management in an academic library. Additional education may be considered as a substitution for the minimum experience requirement.
Demonstrated knowledge of the acquisitions process for serials and electronic resources and understanding of the electronic resources life cycle. Must have effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated flexibility with change and tolerance for complexity and ambiguity. Demonstrated ability to adapt to rapid change and exercise creativity and initiative; ability to proactively manage technology changes. Demonstrated strong customer service focus. Demonstrated commitment to maintaining current awareness of trends in technology, scholarly communication, copyright, intellectual property, and standards related to serials and electronic resources. Demonstrated skills in time management and workflow management: the ability to initiate and complete projects in a timely manner, attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Demonstrated skill in delegation of responsibility and authority to staff. Record of scholarly and professional activity demonstrating commitment to advancing the profession.
Experience supervising the work of others in an academic library. Experience with proprietary database/resource administrative modules. Experience using staff interfaces of an integrated library system such as III's Sierra. Experience using an electronic resources management system.
Experience with an A-to-Z journals management tool (like Ebsco's A-to-Z or Serials Solutions). Experience with a web-scale discovery service (like Ebsco's Discovery Service or Summon). Knowledge of HTML, web design, networks, and proxy servers (like EXProxy). Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, manipulate, and provide meaningful interpretation of data related to serials and electronic resources. Demonstrated experience with developing online user aids using services such as LibGuides. Second master's degree or Ph.D.
