As a senior development officer, this position reports to the Dean for Development and Alumni Relations and is responsible for the planning and implementation of strategy for soliciting philanthropic support from foundations and corporations needed to advance key programmatic priorities of Harvard Law School. The director is responsible for developing and executing strategy to raise a minimum of $10-$15 million per year in corporation and foundation support. As Harvard University recently launched a capital campaign, emphasis will be on funding HLS campaign priorities. Duties include:
Design, implement and manage a comprehensive proactive development plan focused on expanding and enhancing corporate and foundation relationships by directing and coordinating activities related to outreach and philanthropic support.
Identify emerging corporate and foundation leadership and industry trends with special emphasis on developing, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding 6+ figure level philanthropic support. Manage a prospect list of 75-100 corporate and foundation prospects.
Responsibility for developing competitive proposals, implementing solicitation and grant proposals, making presentations and solicitations that are consistent with HLS goals. Prepare related briefing material for the Dean for Development and Dean of the Faculty in preparation for meetings and activities. Analyze data to create objectives and measure success.
Maintain a high quality stewardship process for active corporate and foundation prospects and donors. Ensure that stewardship and reporting requirements are met to sustain successful partnerships by maintaining details records of activities.
Responsibility for maintaining existing strategic alliances with corporations and foundations.
Serve as the key contact regarding all corporate and foundation engagement for all internal and external HLS constituencies. Work closely with the Development officers. Collaborate with the Universitys Office of Sponsored Research, HLS Finance Office, and other university administrative offices.
Collaborate with Development Communications marketing team to brand Corporate and Foundation Giving through meaningful messaging and collateral materials.
Participates in special assignments and related alumni and fundraising events and programs.
Bachelors degree required; advanced degree preferred. Proven fundraising professional with 8 or more years of experience with corporations and foundations, preferably within a private institution of higher education.
Demonstrated ability to secure significant gifts through effective cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and grant development strategies. Excellent research, writing and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to build strong relationships with prospects, faculty, administrators, alumni and volunteers and to manage multiple projects on tight deadlines and in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work as a member of an effective development team. Ability and willingness to travel extensively.
