Associate Provost, Diversity and Inclusion, Chief Diversity Officer

Wayne State University is seeking an Associate Provost for Diversity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer (AP/CDO) to advance the University's mission of inclusive excellence; to serve as the institution's Chief Diversity Officer and to lead the University's efforts in all aspects of diversity, inclusion, educational opportunity, cultural understanding and competency, and civil and human rights.

In this highly-visible and influential new role, the AP/CDO will support and coordinate executive efforts to establish and strengthen Inclusive Excellence as a core value across the University, relating to the educational and student success mission, to research, community engagement, faculty and staff experience, campus culture and climate, and business practices. As Chief Diversity Officer, she or he will serve as a member of the President's cabinet. As Associate Provost, she or he will report to the Provost and Senior Vice President.

An excellent command of contemporary diversity, equity, inclusion, and multiculturalism concepts and issues in higher education; The ability to research, identify, and implement best practices of diversity and inclusion; Previous executive level experience as a Chief Diversity Officer or in diversity leadership in higher education, preferably in a research intensive, urban university environment; The ability to work effectively and collegially within a complex university system with a wide range of constituencies both on and off campus; Exceptional written and oral communication skills; Successful record of leading and advancing diversity and cultural inclusion initiatives; Proven experience in developing and implementing outreach efforts and programs; Demonstrated ability to work effectively in shared governance; Successful record of collaboration and partnerships with the external stakeholders and the larger community; Exceptional listening skills; Creativity, imagination, and flexibility; Ability to engage a wide variety of individuals across the institution and community in strategic planning processes; Prior experience in strategic planning, budget management, and staff supervision; Demonstrated adult learning and development experience.

Candidates should have a terminal degree from an accredited institution and qualify for an appointment in an academic department OR have significant experience in a post-secondary educational environment.
