Jackson State University invites applications for the Associate Vice President for Research – Administration and the Associate Vice President for Research – Development. The Division of Research and Federal Relations manages a grant/contracts portfolio of $35 million in new awards per year with more than 400 active research projects. The Division submits over 150 proposals and manages more than $10 million annually in subcontract activities. The Division includes: Sponsored Programs; Research Compliance; Research Development; Technology Transfer, Licensing and Commercialization; Center for University Scholars; Title III Programs; and The Researcher Interdisciplinary Journal. JSU has established specialization in areas such as: Computational and Data-Enabled Science and Engineering; Health, Health Disparities and Health Sciences; Environmental Science and Engineering; and Cyber Learning. Associate Vice President for Research – Administration
The Associate Vice President for Research – Administration will be responsible for leadership of the Research Administration Team and activities within the Division of Research and Federal Relations. The candidate will report to the Vice President for Research and Federal Relations and will be responsible for leading and administering most aspects of the administration of externally sponsored research, including pre-award, post-award, and fiscal and regulatory compliance. The candidate will ensure the proper consolidation and integration of all Research Administration units.
- Master’s degree or equivalent
- At least five years of experience in research administration
- At least five years supervisory experience
- A demonstrated record of successfully managing competitive externally funded research projects, financial management and accountability, and effective communication and interpersonal skills
Associate Vice President for Research – Development
The Associate Vice President for Research – Development will be responsible for leadership of the Research Development Team within the Division of Research and Federal Relations. The candidate will report to the Vice President for Research and Federal Relations. The Associate Vice President will be responsible for leading and managing most aspects of the Division’s efforts in research development, including: developing and implementing the research strategic plan; identifying opportunities for research initiatives and major funding opportunities; organizing site visits to and by funding agencies; communicating research opportunities to faculty, research staff and administrators; facilitating the preparation of highly competitive proposals; enhancing and facilitating multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional collaborations; communicating research efforts to the external community; and, monitoring and reviewing the progress of research units.
- Ph.D. or terminal degree
- At least five years of experience in research development, sponsored programs or administration/management in a research-intensive university, federal agency, nonprofit or equivalent organization
- A demonstrated record of securing and managing competitive, externally funded research projects from federal, state, public and/or private sources
- Five years project management and/or supervisory experience
- Prior university experience as a faculty member, senior researcher, academic administrator and/or a demonstrated record of significant research leadership in a university, federal agency, nonprofit or equivalent organization
