Assistant Professor Business Librarian
The Mississippi State University (MSU) Libraries seek enthusiastic, innovative, dynamic, user-oriented and technologically knowledgeable applicants for an entry level tenure-track, Assistant Professor position with responsibilities as the Business Librarian. This position will be one of a twelve-member team responsible for the Reference and Campus Outreach Services to MSU students, staff and faculty. This position will collaborate with team members to ensure the effective delivery of user services, including reference, instruction, outreach and collection management in an information-and technology-intensive environment. This position reports to the Coordinator of Research Services. DUTIES: Ability to work as an effective, flexible team member in a service-oriented, computer intensive environment; works daily scheduled hours at a public service desk and on chat, including one evening each week and as part of a Sunday rotation schedule; provides specialized and general research and information support face-to-face reference desk service, in consultations, instruction sessions and in-person and virtual reference services; provides outreach to undergraduates, graduate students and faculty in the College of Business; serves as the Research Services Department's collection development subject specialist in business-related fields; serves as a Library liaison/subject bibliographer for assigned academic department's); prepares research guides for the College of Business; works as a team member of the MSU Libraries' Campus Outreach initiative; participates in University and library-wide committees as appropriate; maintains a course of personal professional development through active participation in professional associations and/or other professional activities external to the libraries; conducts research/creative activities in accordance with the guidelines for promotion and tenure at the MSU Libraries and performs other duties as assigned. REQUIRED: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program; strong commitment to reference and outreach services; strong organizational skills as well as effective interpersonal, collegial and communications/ presentation skills (both oral and written); ability to work independently and as a team member; able to accept new challenges in order to realize departmental and library goals; maintains effective working relationships with colleagues, faculty and staff in a complex and rapidly changing environment; must show continuing commitment to professional development; demonstrates potential for meeting the requirements for promotion and tenure; experience with providing library or course-related instruction. PREFERRED: Second masters or undergraduate degree in business, economics, statistics or data-oriented social science field; experience with chat-based reference; recent academic reference experience; experience with instructional design. Salary/Benefits: $45,500 - $47,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience; faculty rank, privileges and responsibilities; 12-month appointment, excellent benefits package.
