Virginia Military Institute (VMI) is committed to facilitating the transformation of the Miller Academic Center (MAC) into a world-class learning center. Part of this initiative is the opportunity to staff the new position of Associate Director of the MAC. We are looking for a competent and committed professional who will maximize this opportunity to substantively support the Director in the creation and enhancement of academic support and success programs. 

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Actively contribute to the development,      delivery, and administration of programs and services to facilitate      academic success of new cadets and others at all achievement levels
  • Participate in strategic      collaborations with faculty, cadets, and cadet families
  • Support implementation of      technology to enhance the marketing and delivery of MAC programs and      services
  • Assist with the design and      implementation of  leadership      development opportunities through peer assistant programs for cadets      involved in MAC programs and services
  • Represent the MAC at VMI events      (e.g. Admissions Open Houses, Matriculation Fairs, etc.)
  • Contribute to the strategic      planning for the MAC
  • Assist with the seeking of      additional funding through grant writing
  • Integrate assessment to inform      decision-making and support continuous improvement
  • Identify best practices in      academic support through use of comparative and aspirational peers
  • Contribute to the body of      knowledge concerning academic support and success through professional      publications and presentations
  • Positively facilitate effective administration      of the daily operations of the MAC
  • Fulfill other related duties as      assigned by the Director 

Required qualifications: 

  • Masters degree (doctorate      preferred) in higher education or relevant field
  • At least three years of demonstrated      experience in developing innovative and proactive programs promoting      academic success for undergraduates at all ability levels
  • Evidence of strategic      collaborations with faculty in diverse disciplines to promote academic      success
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student      development theory and its current applications in higher education
  • Evidence of strategic thinking      and planning
  • Experience working with diverse      student populations
  • Strong record of engagement in      scholarship and professional activities related to academic support and      academic success
  • Demonstrated use of assessment to      support continuous improvement of programs
  • Evidence of excellent leadership,      organizational, decision-making, and communication skills
  • Ability to work some evenings and      Saturdays 

Preferred qualifications: 

  • At least six years of      demonstrated experience in developing innovative and proactive programs      promoting academic success for undergraduates at all ability levels
  • Competency in data analytical      software such as SAS or SPSS
  • Demonstrated competency in      technology such as relation databases and webpage design
  • Demonstrated skills in grant      writing in higher education
