About the Position:
In order to strengthen its fundraising foundation, the San José State University is seeking an energetic and entrepreneurial fundraising professional to engage alumni and friends in annual philanthropic support of the university.
SJSU successfully completed “Acceleration,” the first comprehensive campaign in its 157-year history, in 2013. The campaign raised more than $208 million for campus-wide priorities, realizing gifts from private individuals, corporations and foundations.
As the university continues its fundraising efforts with an eye toward a future campaign, we seek a Director of Leadership Annual Giving who is enthusiastic, dynamic, resilient and creative professional excited about developing our donor pipeline in a cohesive and collegial fast-paced environment. Working closely with colleagues to implement strategic approaches to increase the donor base and build a robust pipeline for major gift support for the University, this key Annual Giving team member is capable of managing a number of key responsibilities, including:
• Actively managing a prospect portfolio with annual goals
• Implementing strategies that identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors, directly resulting in leadership annual gifts that increase philanthropic support of the university
• Contributing to the fundraising efforts for the SJSU Fund, Alumni Association scholarships and a variety of university priorities
• Actively participates in alumni and donor engagement activities
The successful candidate has a two or more years of experience in alumni and donor engagement, fundraising, or transferrable private sector experience. It is also critical that candidates possess the donor-centric (or client-centric) communication skills necessary to successfully contact prospects, frequently by cold call, and achieve outcomes that move the university’s philanthropic effort forward.
Experience that includes any combination higher education, comprehensive or capital campaigns is desired but not required.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education is required.

Experience interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds;
Effective utilization of the campus prospect management system to enter prospect/donor contact reports and other relevant data in a timely fashion;
Collection of data for reports and inquiries as needed;
Participation in a variety staff, functional and strategy meetings as well as attendance of conferences, seminars, and other development training as appropriate
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience utilizing fundraising database programs;
