The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking an experienced academic leader in dental education to serve as the Associate Dean for Education in the School of Dentistry. This is a full-time clinical or tenure/tenure track position at the associate or full professor level. The Associate Dean for Education is the chief administrative officer responsible for excellence of our academic programs: DDS, advanced dental education (four certificate programs, nine MS degree programs and two PhD programs), dental hygiene and dental assisting, for more than 500 students and residents. The Associate Dean for Education supervises three Assistant Deans and one Director who oversee Advanced Education/Graduate Studies, Admissions & Student Affairs, Academic Services, and Faculty Development and interfaces with other Health Affairs Schools. This position reports to the Dean.
The candidate must have at least 10 years of experience in dental education and at least 3 years in a leadership position at an accredited institution. Experience with curriculum development, academic planning and program evaluation, academic regulations and CODA accreditation are preferred. Additional expectations include a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusivity and passion about educational excellence and innovation. Current school initiatives include advancing inter- and intra-professional education, new educational and clinical technologies, integration of basic and clinical sciences, and expanding community engagement.
Opportunities to practice in our intramural Dental Faculty Practice, teaching and scholarly activities are available on limited basis. The successful candidate is expected to be a faculty member with an academic appointment in a School of Dentistry congruent with his/her professional background. Position is open until filled. Tentative start date: September 1, 2014.
