The Office of Institutional Advancement at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Director of Public Relations and Publications. Reporting to the Executive Director for Marketing and Communications, this position is essential to effectively integrating the Colleges marketing and communications programs and achieving annual goals for the Office of Institutional Advancement. Candidates should be committed to the mission, vision, recruitment and fundraising priorities of SUNY Plattsburgh; have demonstrated leadership managing public relations and publication programs and possess persuasive oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Responsibilities include: Serve as the press officer and official spokesperson for the college; Build positive, professional relationships with members of the media and other constituents of the college to promote the college positively; As Executive Editor of the Plattsburgh Magazine and Calling Card (monthly electronic newsletter), align official communications to strategic priorities of the college, and improve the quality of the finished pieces and their production; Ensure regular updating of electronic content showcasing college events and positive news about SUNY Plattsburgh through web publications and social media; Assist Alumni Relations in communications that support the engagement of alumni in a lifelong relationship with the college; Serve as Emergency Communication Public Information Officer for the campus and coordinate emergency communications team when applicable; Assist the executive director in establishing workable, prioritized, and strategic work plans for the marketing and communications team. Some evening and weekend work will be required.
Required Qualifications: Bachelors degree and minimum of five years experience in public relations and/or publications; Demonstrated experience leading others and successfully managing projects on deadline; Excellent interpersonal and oral skills; Excellent writing ability supported by a history of published articles and publications; Willingness and availability to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
Preferred Qualifications: Graduate degree; Marketing and strategic branding experience; Intermediate to expert ability in software programs such as Microsoft Office, project management software, and content management systems for the web.
