The College of Business Administration at the University of Tennessee is seeking an Academic Advisor in the Undergraduate Programs Office.

 The Undergraduate Programs Office provides a comprehensive academic advising program for 3,800 students in the College of Business Administration.  The office is responsible for academic advising, assists in curriculum delivery and enrollment management, progression decisions for nine majors, training of advisors and faculty mentors, recruitment and orientation activities, scholarships, compilation and analysis of longitudinal data for business students, and makes referrals to campus and community resources.

 The Academic Advisors primary responsibilities are meeting with undergraduate business students and providing advice on a host of academic planning issues (course planning, transfer evaluation, major selection, internships, career development, enrollment management, et cetera). Advisors must be able to conduct intrusive advising sessions with students experiencing academic difficulty as well as refer students to appropriate resources on and off campus.  Additional duties include: teaching a first-year seminar course; representing the College of Business Administration at recruiting fairs, orientations and corporate events; participation in the colleges development of technology initiatives; capturing and maintaining student data; general trouble shooting; and the supervision and mentoring of student staff.

 Required Qualifications:

Completion of coursework for Masters degree, with degree to be awarded within one year of start of employment.  Candidates should have a demonstrated interest in working in higher education and possess strong written and oral communication skills.   Candidates should demonstrate evidence of strong judgment, initiative, and attention to detail.

 Desired Qualifications:

Experience working with college or university students in an advising, teaching, or mentoring role or in other professional role.  Experience working in an environment similar to the Undergraduate Programs Office or related experience.  Familiarity with an undergraduate business curriculum.  Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and information technologies used for student record keeping.  Evidence of management, leadership, and organizational ability, including the supervision of work staff and multitasking.
