Job Overview: Reporting to the Vice Provost of the Office of Institutional Research, Assessment, and Effectiveness, the AVP for Strategic Institutional Analytics supports the Office primarily in the area of advanced applied statistical analysis (e.g, multiple linear and logistic regression, outcome evaluation, causal analysis) in support of decision-making at the University. Demonstrated proficiency in communicating complex findings to audiences without a statistical background is essential. ¬

Analyses are based on project-specific datasets that must be constructed from data merged from multiple sources, including University transactional database tables (Banner), a University data warehouse (SQL Server) and self-report data from surveys. As such, this is not exclusively an analyst position -- expertise in data management, SQL-query writing, as well as effective oral and written communication of research findings are essential. In this capacity the position will also be a partner in ongoing development and refinement of the University data warehouse.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Deep knowledge of advanced quantitative statistical techniques
  • Experience conducting quantitative research in an applied setting (e.g., institutional research, program evaluation, survey research, market research, etc.) with a focus on actionable results
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills ? particularly in communicating complex research findings clearly to a variety of audiences that have limited statistical background
  • Skilled in developing compelling visual displays of research results
  • Experience working with relational databases, SQL
  • Three years' experience working with higher education data
  • Master's degree or higher, with extensive coursework in advanced and applied statistical analysis

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with institutional research reporting and data definitions (IPEDS, CDS, etc.)
  • Doctorate degree in a quantitative discipline
  • Knowledge of trends in the higher education industry
  • Experience with Banner database

Essential Functions:

The primary function of this position will be, under the direction of the Vice Provost for IRAE, to undertake applied research that can help guide decision-making and resource allocation. This will involve utilizing extant data sources and merging them to construct project-specific research datasets, conducting the statistical analysis appropriate to the research question and, perhaps most importantly, communicating the results clearly to non-technical audiences in a manner that can directly inform decision-making and resource allocation.

The position will also support other IRAE major office initiatives, as needed, including, (1) the ongoing development of the IRAE reporting data warehouse, (2) reports and research products based on institutional student self-report data, and, (3) institutional dashboards and benchmarking analyses.

Working with the Vice Provost, the position will also help form and lead a University-wide data analytics committee to coordinate and integrate analytic activities across the University's administrative units.
