The Department of Music at The College of New Jersey invites applications for Music Director and Conductor of the College Orchestra (part-time/adjunct) starting in the Fall 2014 semester. Duties include directing an undergraduate student orchestra (populated by music majors and non-majors) in regular rehearsals, sectionals, and concerts, as well as expanding and maintaining the ensemble by auditioning students, close collaboration with music faculty colleagues, on-campus recruitment, and outreach into local and regional communities.

Depending on departmental needs and candidate's expertise, additional duties may include teaching a conducting or Liberal Learning course in music; participation in recruitment events, music major entrance auditions, and area juries; coordination of the Department's string area; collaborating with Lyric Theater productions.

A per-semester contract is renewable. Salary will be commensurate with candidate's qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. DMA (completed or ABD) in orchestra conducting or equivalent professional conducting experience;

2. Three years of successful orchestra leadership at the college, community, and/or regional levels;

3. Excellent oral, written, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

S/he will have a proven record or strong potential as a well-rounded conductor with visibility on local, regional, and national levels, and be able to channel this experience into sustaining a vital orchestra rooted in an academic setting.
