Assistant General Counsel Labor & Employment

The Ohio State University seeks an Assistant General Counsel to provide a high level of legal services to the University.  This attorney will focus on employment and labor matters for The Ohio State University, with specific focus on The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and the health science colleges and on other units of the University as assigned.  Areas of practice will include labor and employment matters affecting Human Resources, administrators, and department heads; managing employment litigation and charges, including Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, and similar issues, as well as SPBR appeals; drafting employment agreements, contracts, and other legal documents; advising on classified civil service rules and procedures; health benefits and wellness issues; policy development and implementation; advising on regulatory and compliance matters; participating in training and preventative law efforts; and handling other complex, highly-sensitive and specialized matters related to labor and employment law.

A Juris doctor, a minimum of 5-10 years of legal experience, significant labor and employment law experience, and membership in good standing with the Supreme Court of the State of Ohio, or eligibility achieve that standing within one year are required. Previous experience with university legal issues, public institutions, and/or health care issues is strongly preferred.
