Reporting to CSERs Faculty Director and working closely with the Assistant Director, the incumbent directs and develops the master's degree program in American Studies at Columbia.
In coordination with CSERs Director, the MA Program Director also develops the day-to-day and overall administrative, operational, and financial components of the program, as well as curriculum and programming. He/she works closely with the Faculty Director in the development of teaching and co-curricular programs, development of program marketing efforts, publications and new media efforts, public outreach and communications, and budgetary goal setting.
The Program Director is the primary adviser for the incoming MA students and advises students, both current and prospective, on academic matters, program requirements, available courses, and University resources. He/she is responsible for all program events and oversees career development workshops for students in the program. Manages and executes student correspondence, application review, and all admissions decisions in consultation with CSERs Director, its Executive Committee, and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS). Generates reports for the Faculty Director, the Executive Committee, and GSAS as needed. Manages admission and registration procedures in close collaboration with GSAS. Assists students with visas and housing; audits student records for degree requirements; serves as liaison for masters program students with campus offices. Responsible for maintaining departmental records for masters program students, which includes demographic data, academic records, and placements. Handles other duties as required.
