Job Description: This is a 12-month tenure-track position in the Department of Animal Sciences, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Florida (Gainesville, FL). The position has a 60% research and 40% Extension assignment. The major duties of the position are to develop and implement a strong research and Extension program in Animal Breeding and related subject areas that will benefit the Florida dairy and livestock industries. The research focus may include theoretical, computational, and applied approaches to quantitative genetics and genomics, population genetics, mixed model methodology, and genetic-genomic evaluation and selection. The Extension assignment includes educating dairy and livestock producers and allied industries about practical and economically important aspects of genetic and genomic evaluation and selection, including the transfer of new research findings. The successful applicant will assist with Southeast Dairy Herd Information Association (DHIA) educational programming and provide input to Southeast DHIA on future directions. The faculty member is expected to recruit and advise graduate students, develop a nationally and internationally recognized research and Extension program, publish study results in peer-reviewed journals, and procure extramural funding. The successful applicant is expected to collaborate with other faculty. Because of the IFAS land-grant mission, all faculty members are expected to be supportive of and engaged in all three mission areas Teaching and Extensionof the assignment split specified in the position description. Florida boasts vibrant dairy, beef, and horse industries that have strong ties to the research, teaching and Extension programs within IFAS. The Department of Animal Sciences ( has an emphasis on forage consuming species, particularly cattle and horses, and their products of meat, milk and power. There are significant strengths in the Department in the areas of management systems, physiology, nutrition and meat science that will serve as fertile collaborative potential for the incumbent to this position. The Department also has substantial production-related resources related to dairy and beef cattle available for use by faculty in research, teaching and Extension efforts. Opportunities for collaboration further exist across the University of Florida, such as through the Genetics Institute (
Minimum Requirements: A Ph.D. (foreign equivalent acceptable) in animal breeding, genetics or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates will also have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication and interpersonal relationships. Candidates must have a commitment to IFAS core values of excellence, diversity, global involvement, and accountability.
Preferred Qualifications Postdoctoral experience is highly recommended but not required.
