The School of Continuing Education seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Discipline to serve as an anchor in the field of analytics as it applies to a number of SCE's MS Programs: Information and Knowledge Strategy, Technology Management, Sustainability Management, Actuarial Science, Sports Management, and other relevant programs. This is a full-time position with multi-year renewal contingent on successful reviews. The position is effective July 1, 2014.
The Lecturer in Discipline will develop and teach courses in analytics that can be offered across multiple SCE programs and directed to students who require advanced knowledge in the application of data analysis to support better organizational decisions. The Lecturer will advance a vision and provide direction for the application of various analytics courses at SCE and work closely with the academic directors and faculty of relevant degree programs to develop analytics courses that meet the needs of different MS programs.
The lecturer is expected to develop and teach graduate-level and executive education courses: typically 6 courses annually, including face-to-face and online courses (either 3 courses taught each spring and fall semester or 2 courses taught each spring, summer, and fall semester).
This position also requires active participation in the following: curriculum and program development and evaluation; faculty recruitment and evaluation; development and execution of strategies to support program area students as they transition from prospects to alumni; and academic and career advising to support the academic needs and professional aspirations of MS and post-baccalaureate students. The candidate must be capable of contributing to SCE's academic mission, and demonstrate the potential for vision and direction that will be required for all aspects of the position.
Masters Degree or equivalent
All applicants MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered for the position. Candidates for the SCE Lecturer in Discipline position must have a Master's Degree in a related field and must show promise of continuing to make significant contributions to their areas of professional practice, research, and/or accompanying pedagogy. Teaching experience in degree or executive education programs and demonstrated outstanding instruction are required.
The preferred candidate will be able to develop and teach courses that can be applied across multiple Master of Science programs and will be capable of working closely with the academic directors and faculty of each degree program. The ability to develop a vision and provide direction for the application of various analytics courses at SCE; a strong track record of outstanding instruction and active participation in industries that utilize analytics in practice; and experience developing and teaching graduate-level and executive education courses for working professionals are also preferred. Additionally the preferred candidate will have a proven track record of excellence in the following areas:
(a) Academia: Developing and delivering higher education courses in applied analytics and/or applied statistics, coupled with a knowledge of business management and strategy. An understanding of computing languages and databases is a plus but not necessary;
(b) Industry practices: Developing innovative tools, techniques and methodologies that have advanced analytics practices in at least one industry sector;
(c) Industry experience: Experience working in a leadership position in one of the following industries or sectors: finance, media, health, manufacturing, consulting, education;
(d) Leadership: A recognized global thought leader, with credibility and visibility exhibited by having authored articles with at least one text recognized in academia and/or industry; having been elected to and/or served on relevant industry committees; and having been quoted by the media;
Experience developing and teaching online courses is preferred but not required.
