Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning/Dean, Division of Undergraduate Education

The University of California, Irvine invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning/Dean, Division of Undergraduate Education. UC Irvine seeks a visionary thinker dedicated to inclusive excellence, committed to student success, enhanced educational experience, and outstanding learning outcomes. The Vice Provost and Dean will advocate on behalf of faculty and students in all matters related to undergraduate education, working closely with campus leadership and academic units to ensure their needs are incorporated into course delivery and instructional technology plans. Areas of oversight include instructional innovation and technology, assessment and evaluation, study abroad, undergraduate research and honors programs, student transition/transfer services, and community engagement, among others.

Key selection criteria include:

• A strong academic record commensurate with appointment to the rank of full professor with
tenure

• Established success as an administrator in a complex higher education environment, including
faculty leadership, staff development, and fiscal and facilities management

• Strategic leadership skills to develop and synchronize multiple functions and initiatives with the
goal of enhancing the overall undergraduate experience

• In-depth understanding of instructional technology, teaching and support as those relate to
new pedagogical and instructional technology, including intimate familiarity with physical
(classroom), virtual (online), and pedagogical learning environments

• Extensive knowledge of developments in assessment and evaluation of instructional innovation
and technology

• Demonstrated commitment to advancing inclusive excellence in student learning and
achievement

• Demonstrated understanding of the many aspects of undergraduate student support, including,
for example: internship programs; international education; student transition services; undecided/
undeclared advising; undergraduate research and honors programs; and academic testing

• Demonstrated record of success in developing and maintaining strong working relationships with
faculty, students, staff administrators, and internal and external partners
