About the Position

Reporting to the Vice President for University Advancement, the Associate Vice President (AVP) will design and lead the University Development function including Major Gifts, Planned Gifts, Corporation and Foundation Relations and Donor Relations.

The AVP will collaborate with the Vice President on the vision, direction, strategy and implementation of all fundraising activities and the achievement of major fundraising campaign goals. The AVP will ensure that development functions are operating optimally; in this capacity, the AVP will recruit, manage and mentor the team of fundraisers to identify, cultivate and solicit individual major gift donors and corporate and foundation donors for campaign gifts in support of university priorities. Through collaboration with other Advancement personnel, the AVP will produce high quality campaign communication and marketing strategies and materials as well as ensure that the Development function is complying with all University, state and federal rules, regulations and laws specifically pertaining to accurate recording, timely reporting and stewardship of gifts.

Requirements
The successful candidate should have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, master’s degree preferred; a minimum of ten years progressive experience in fundraising. Supervision or management experience is preferred. The candidate should have knowledge and experience in major campaign and individual gift solicitation including managing a fundraising staff and volunteers within the context of a capital campaign of $50 million or greater, CFRE accreditation is desirable, a proven track record in raising and managing major gifts; corporate and foundation gifts, planned and deferred gifts. The candidate must demonstrate successful experience working with boards and foundations comprising prominent individuals and the ability to work closely with faculty and senior level administrators in the achievement of University fundraising goals. Superior written and verbal communication skills are crucial including ability in public speaking and presentations to large and small groups. Demonstrated organizational skills, strong analytical and reporting skills with a personal ethic of accountability and ability to communicate effectively with a diverse student, staff, faculty and campus community is imperative; ability to persuade and motivate others, enlist respect and attention of the University leadership and influence volunteers and the ability to provide strong, innovative leadership in developing and implementing programs is essential. Salary
Review of applications will begin on July 1, 2014. This is a position in the California State University Management Personnel Plan (MPP). Appointments to MPP are at-will and serve at the pleasure of the President. Salary within the MPP is commensurate with experience; however, the anticipated hiring salary range for this position is $125,000.00 - $140,000.00.
