Position Announcement


Eastern Illinois University invites applications and nominations for Director of Intercollegiate Athletics for an appointment beginning August 1, 2014.  The Director of Athletics reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs and is responsible for the development and administration of the intercollegiate athletic program.  EIU is an NCAA Division I athletic program (Football Championship Subdivision) with memberships in the Ohio Valley Conference as well as The Summit League (affiliate).


The successful candidate will have a record that demonstrates leadership and administrative effectiveness in an athletic program that emphasizes success both on the playing field and in the classroom; must be knowledgeable about NCAA compliance, Title IX compliance, and the fiscal and management complexities of an intercollegiate athletic department; should have demonstrated success in working with booster organizations and local and regional communities to heighten program visibility and fundraising; must work collaboratively with coaches, staff, and the university community; must be of highest integrity and character; and must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


A Master’s degree required.  Degree in administration, sports administration, public administration, or a related field preferred.  Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are required. Significant athletic administration experience required.  NCAA experience at the Division I level preferred.
