The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Arizona State University invites applications for an Organic Chemistry Lecturer position to begin in the Fall of 2014. The successful candidate will provide instruction in our large undergraduate organic chemistry program, assign teaching assistants and supervise teaching assistants and junior faculty, coordinate the organic laboratory courses and recitation schedules, serve on department and university committees and develop course materials and future program plans in conjunction with other faculty and staff.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field
  • Two years of teaching or teaching assistant experience at the college level
  • Strong organizational and written/verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety policies
  • Effective teaching ability (as evidenced by peer and/or student reviews)
  •  

Desired Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field
  • Two years of college teaching experience
  • Previous lecturer experience in Organic Chemistry courses
  • Previous experience in online instruction techniques
  • Experience working with diverse student populations
  • Ability to supervise and mentor teaching assistants
  • Ability to work as part of an instructional team

 

Salary Range: $45,000-$50,000 DOE

 

General Information:

 

Initial appointment is for a 9-month academic year. Subsequent annual renewal is possible contingent upon performance, availability of resources and the needs of the unit. After the initial appointment, a renewable, multi-year appointment may be considered for a candidate who demonstrates exceptional contributions to the program.  There is also the possibility of summer support, depending on department needs.  Salary is dependent on experience. The position is benefits eligible.
