As part of the University of Floridas Preeminence Initiative, the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track nine-month positions at the rank of associate or full professor in the social sciences with a focus on social network analysis. Scholarly topics of interest include, but are not limited to collaborative networks, political networks, ecological networks and health networks. This hire is part of a new initiative in Informatics. We are particularly interested in candidates that can bridge research efforts between social network analysis and network science. As part of a new Informatics Institute, the successful candidate will apply technologies for the aggregation and analysis of large datasets to problem-focused research topics from disciplines in CLAS as well as other colleges at UF.
We seek applicants with a demonstrated record of rigorous field research and scholarship, a record of external grant funding, and excellence in teaching (especially the training of graduate students) across a broad range of topics and regions. Candidates also should demonstrate an interest in program building and the ability to work collaboratively across disciplinary boundaries with faculty and students in various departments and disciplines.
The appointment will be made in the appropriate disciplinary department within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, with tenure in the department. The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (CLAS) is UFs largest college and the Departments of Anthropology, Geography, History, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology and Criminology & Law (www.clas.ufl.edu) are prospective home departments, although other departmental affiliations in CLAS are possible. All of these departments have MA and PhD training programs with faculty who employ diverse theoretical perspectives and methodologies. Social science and history faculty in CLAS frequently work collaboratively across disciplinary and regional boundaries and are active in research and practice in many regions of the world.
