Position Overview:

The Ohio State University seeks an Assistant General Counsel to provide a high level of legal services to the University. This attorney will focus on student and academic affairs and on other units of the University as assigned. Areas of practice will include student life, housing, and organizations; admissions and financial aid; study abroad; academic misconduct; disability accommodations; litigation; FERPA, public records law, and ethics laws; crisis management and critical incident response; policy development and implementation; affiliation agreements and other transactional matters; advising on regulatory and compliance matters; and participating in training and preventative law efforts.

The successful candidate will have strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, excellent written and oral communication abilities, robust research skills, and the ability to work cooperatively and collegially, and both proactively and reactively, to address legal issues within the context of the University's mission and goals.

Education/Experience:

A Juris doctor, a minimum of two years of experience in a complex legal practice, and membership in good standing with the Supreme Court of the State of Ohio, or eligibility to achieve that standing within one year are required.

Previous experience with university legal issues and/or student affairs is strongly preferred.
