Assistant Director of Admissions – Multiple Positions

UMass Amherst, the flagship campus of the University of Massachusetts system, is seeking energetic professionals to join its undergraduate admissions team. The University, which recruits prospective high school students both nationally and internationally, receives approximately 40,000 applications for admission each year.

The Assistant Director of Admissions is an integral member of the department’s professional staff, which is charged with recruiting, selecting, and enrolling the undergraduate first-year class. The Assistant Director acts as one of several readers for freshman applications and serves a public relations/informational role with prospective applicants and their parents and with high school guidance counselors. Travel to specific, assigned regions for presenting informational programs and attending college fairs is required. The Assistant Director manages a specific territory, develops collegial relationships with high school personnel, identifies and recruits applicants, and manages, evaluates, and implements outreach and recruitment programs.

Minimum Qualifications: Our ideal candidate will demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the undergraduate experience at a major research university. A bachelor’s degree at time of hire, ability to speak and write clearly and persuasively, sensitivity to multicultural and socioeconomic issues, and excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills are required. Must be available and willing to work a varied schedule, including evening/weekend work and a minimum of 4-6 weeks of seasonal travel per year. Must have a valid driver’s license (with proof of insurability) and the ability to obtain a university credit card. Knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience as an admissions counselor/recruiter or relevant experience in marketing/sales; experience with student information systems (preferably PeopleSoft); and bilingual ability.

Hiring Salary Range: $37,300 – $46,700

Normal Starting Salary Range: $37,300 – $42,000
