JOB DUTIES:  Primary responsibilities will be divided between teaching in area of expertise and executing the daily administrative responsibilities of the music department in an efficient and timely manner.  The Department Head oversees the operations of the department which include developing, implementing, and assessing curriculum; managing budgets; supervising teaching and non-teaching responsibilities of faculty and staff; coordinating faculty workloads and developing course schedules; evaluating faculty and staff and making recommendations; coordinating NASM accreditation activities; administering student recruitment and scholarship programs; participating in fund-raising initiatives and working to identify resources for new and existing programs; and representing the department within the university and to the greater public.  Other teaching assignments and duties will be determined by the candidate's qualifications and the needs of the department.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Minimum qualifications include an earned doctorate in music (D.M.A. or Ph.D.) with a documented record of outstanding teaching, scholarly and creative activities, and service that merits appointment at the rank of associate or full professor in a field or specialization represented by the department; plus three years of successful administrative experience leading a music department with documented budget, curriculum development and assessment, and faculty/staff development and evaluation experience; a thorough knowledge of and experience with NASM accreditation policies and procedures; and excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.  Evidence of securing external funding is preferred.  Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for part of these requirements.
