GENERAL DUTIES

-         Administers and supervises financial aid programs and operations.  

-         Reviews contracts, disbursements, tuition and fees; validates student eligibility for various programs

-         Administers, monitors and troubleshoots CUNY financial aid systems as well as Federal and NY State systems in order to ensure integrity of student databases and timely and accurate delivery of funds

-         Assists CUNY staff, applicants, and students/families with advice on financial aid issues and eligibility 

-         May review and reconcile student payroll processing

-         Represents the Financial Aid function at Admissions events; works with academic departments as well as Bursar, Registrar, Admissions and Computing offices to assure staff understand and implement financial aid processes correctly

-         Assists in the development and evaluation of Admissions processes

-         Prepares documentation, instructions, and materials in various media to support financial aid activities

-         Performs related duties as assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The Financial Aid Specialist will administer the Federal Work Study (FWS) program. In addition to the general duties the duties include:

-         Managing the Federal Work Study discretionary budget of $176,000.

-         Maintaining and updating the Federal Work Study Job Bank.

-         Interacting with supervisors (on campus and off campus) in managing FWS students.

-         Creating promotional materials for FWS programs on campus.

-         Prescreening students for their eligibility for the FWS award.

-         Monitoring the G.P.A and Satisfactory Academic Progress of those students receiving FWS.

-         Processing students FWS contracts.

-         Assisting the students in applying for FWS jobs.

-         Working with the Center for Career & Professional Development in placing students in their FWS Internship Program.

-         Inputting FWS hours on the payroll system.

-         Monitoring student hours to prevent over packaging in the students' budget.

-         Providing periodic reports to the Financial Aid Director on the number of students placed, locations, and supervisors.

-         Attending monthly meetings of the CUNY Federal Work Study Coordinators.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required and four years' related experience required.  

           

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

-         Experience with the use of technology in higher education, preferably PeopleSoft/Oracle

-         Experience in a college financial aid office highly preferred

-         Possess and demonstrate the ability to work with a diverse population

-         Excellent oral and written communications skills

           

COMPENSATION

$42,873 - $44,552
