The Florida Joint center for Citizenship (FJCC) is a partnership between the Lou Frey Institute at the University of Central Florida and the Bob Graham Center at the University of Florida. It is managed by the Lou Frey Institute at UCF. Working with district curriculum supervisors, teachers and others, the Joint Center provides curriculum resources, assessment resources, and professional development to support effective civics instruction and student learning in Floridas K-12 schools.
The position of Director is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure earning appointment at the University of Central Florida reporting to the Executive Director of the Lou Frey Institute. The individual in this position will provide leadership and a strategic vision for the future of FJCC, strengthen statewide and national networks, plan for and manage day-to-day operations and personnel, and work to expand FJCCs capacity and funding base.
A terminal degree is strongly preferred, ABD's are considered. It also requires experience in managing projects and/or organizations and evidence of research and writing skills. The successful candidate will have a strong working knowledge of the literature in civic education and engagement, standards-based curriculum design, professional development and assessment, and American Government & Politics. Applicants should also have an understanding of major issues in educational policy and educational technology. Knowledge of the civics education policy framework in Florida is a plus.
The ability to manage a geographically dispersed staff and facilitate collaborative teams is essential in this position as is the ability to communicate effectively. Experience in K-12 classroom teaching, grant development and management, and working with state and local education policy makers are all highly desirable.
